The design for 1932 shows a Princeton “Smoothie” in top hat, monocle, and wing collar. Hugh ‘Bud’ Wynne ’39 described the meaning of the logo as follows: “In 1932, Princeton’s football fortunes reached their post-Roper, pre-Crisler nadir. The cross-hatched spread of the tie below the knot depicts a football shoe kicking a football. The football’s destination is indicated by the cleft in the supine “3” forming the smoothie’s chin which metamorphoses into a more fundamental anatomical part.”
